Kat Tingey’s resounding lyrics and melodic tunes bring to its listeners a truth that is seldom heard today. Her music speaks of love, desire, passion, and life experiences. Her latest album, Stranger, was released in 2009 and displays her versatility and growth from “Something Samba” with its Mediterranean vibe to the hauntingly rock n’ roll edge of “Raise You Head”.
Kat’s natural talent emerged at an early. As her passion for music developed, her desire to write and play songs of her own grew as well. Approximately a year after learning guitar she began to compose her own music and lyrics . In college, Kat became a member of Gunther Yazoo, a rock pop group, where she developed as a stage performer. This gave her courage and motivation to progress with her own music and by 2001 recorded her first album, Innocence.
Kat finished her schooling in Logan, Utah. She studied Music/Guitar Performance under the direction of Michael Christiansen, the Director of Guitar Studies. Under his direction, Kat improved in knowledge and skills. While at the University, Kat began playing at local restaurants and cafes and by 2004 her second album, Raining Autumn, was released.
In 2008, Kat started compiling music and lyrics to create her third album, Stranger, which was released the following year. On this album, Kat was able to work with artists such as Ryan Tilby, Aaron Ashton and Ryan Shupe who helped construct the sound she was looking for. Kats hope is to “touch or affect people’s lives and possibly inspire or make a difference with [her] music. I don’t really have a favorite song, it changes all the time. All of them have reasons for being written and they all mean something different to me.”
