The band was originally named The Muslims, but changed the name due to "ignorant and racist" comments. The band formed in San Diego but are now based in Los Angeles. In 2008, the band opened for groups such as The Breeders, The Last Shadow Puppets and Bloc Party. In March 2009, the band opened for Franz Ferdinand on six of their UK tour dates, before performing at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. In April 2009, the band began touring with White Lies and Friendly Fires on their North American tour. In May 2009, the band played six shows across the United Kingdom in support of the release of their "Extinction" EP.
Having released records through labels such as 1928 Recordings, Sweet Tooth Records, Caspian Records and I Hate Rock n' Roll, the band is currently signed to Kemado Records.
The band recently signed a deal with Heavenly Recordings/Coopertive Music.
Eli Janney, a New York based producer, will collaborate with the band on the upcoming album.
The Soft Pack will be playing two shows in the USA with Phoenix.
