Singer/songwriter Elan Lea, who has achieve success thus far in his native South Africa as well as in the U.K., is readying his debut US project “Conversations Over Time,” highlighted by the aptly titled lead single “Take The World.”
Since bursting onto the music scene at only 17 with the hit “Hold Me In Your Arms,” Elan has evolved and crafted his sound into a powerful mix of pop, rock and soul matched by his equally strong voice and stage presence.
“Conversations Over Time,” follows Elan’s highly successful 2009 Universal Records album “My Only Excuse,” which included tracks written by Guy Chambers (Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, INXS) and Diane Warren (LeAnn Rimes, Celine Dion, Toni Braxton), as well as the hit “Right Away,” produced by Matt Ward and Dean Gillard (Usher, Taylor Swift, The Saturdays, Lemar), with remixes by Digital Dog and J-Staxx, which reached the top 20 on the U.K. Commercial Club Pop Chart.
For his upcoming 2012 album, “Conversations Over Time,” Elan is relying upon his own voice, as the primary composer: “I looked for inspiration not only in my own life, but also from friends’ and the people around me. “Conversations Over Time” is about heartache, hope and life’s challenges. These are a far cry from the simple love songs I wrote as a kid.”
The one grand exception: Elan collaborated on a track and sings it with the late legendary Bee Gee Robin Gibb. “ I stayed in his home with his family, and he taught me more than a thing or two about writing. Robin is my music mentor,” Elan says. “There aren’t too many people out there who have the privilege of singing and writing a duet with him. It’s an honor I will cherish forever.”
Other highlights on “Conversations”—which was produced by Mark Crew—include “I Miss You, I Love You,” a song Elan re-recorded from the previous album with a modified arrangement, about the real-life loss of a friend’s girlfriend in the 2004 tsunami in Thailand. “It was as though I could hear the pain coming from his eyes,” he says. “I’m really eager for people to experience this track.”
