Tim, 25, was born and raised outside of Boston in Newton, Massachusetts. He graduated from Newton North High School in 2000, where he was the president of his class. Tim went on to attend Harvard University, where he majored in Government, and graduated cum laude.
After college, Tim moved to Los Angeles to pursue a music career. He began academic tutoring on the side, but soon this “side business” proved so successful that he and a partner launched an academic tutoring company, The Cartim Group, when Tim was 22. At the core of the company is Tim’s philosophy that struggling students need more than a traditional tutor. He describes his tutors as “academic mentors” who serve as academic role models, teaching students the “why” and “how” of school, not just the “what.” Today, Tim and his partner employ 25 tutors and project their company's annual revenue at over $1 million.
In 2007, Tim was named one of LA's "Top 20 Entrepreneurs in their 20's" by the Los Angeles Business Journal.
Still devoted to his main passion—writing music—Tim has teamed up with Grammy Award-winning producer Glen Ballard and has recently completed his first album, Turning Home. Ballard describes the album—a collection of music composed and performed by Tim—as “a 30-minute journey through Tim’s unique world of music.”
In his free time, Tim hangs out with his small tortoise, Winston.
