Heavily influenced by life’s challenges and strongly driven by a “never back down” attitude, Brisbane’s young pop-punk band Call The Shots have their sights set high and are well on there way; shaping up to be the next big thing!
“Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Mest, All Time Low, Bowling For Soup are some of the bands that influence the sound of our music, the lyrics are all from my own personal experiences and feelings.” – Josh Setterfield (Lead Singer)
Since releasing their free debut EP ‘Crank Up The Happy’ through their official website in 2011, the response has been phenomenal with over 4,000 downloads and still climbing. The band has received airplay on major and independent radio stations including Triple J. This release set them in motion and saw them embark on an East Coast tour, playing sold out shows in both major cities and rural areas. They have shared stages with acts including Mest, The Wonder Years, Tonight Alive and Rufio.
The success of the band’s acoustic cover of 'Jet Lag' by Simple Plan exceeded 14,500 views on YouTube and topped the Tweet-For-A-Track charts for more than ten days. This cover featured a competition winner who won a guest spot to sing the female vocals for the song. “We were lucky enough to have Simple Plan drummer Chuck Comeau tweet us and congratulate us on our efforts.”
A very strong relationship with fans is the backbone of all successful bands. Call The Shots always strive to make fans feel a part of them, involving them every step of the way. They spend as much time as they can at shows to meet and talk with their fans. They are consistent across social media platforms; tweeting fans and often hosting live video streams – no matter what the band are there for their fans.
“Our fans mean nothing less than everything in the world, our music is a reflection of us but also what I am feeling from the stories they’re saying. I just want to lift people’s moods and make them feel like they aren't alone through bad times.” – Josh Setterfield (Lead Singer)
Recent success has seen the band secure a spot in Dolly Magazine’s Hottest 100 for “Hottest Band” Where they came in at number 8. Up against bands including One Direction, The Collective, 5 Seconds of Summer & The Janoskians. The competition was based on votes through a readers’ poll. This only proves the underlying loyalty, support and genuine love expressed by fans. The solid foundation built and nurtured by the band is priceless and a true credit to them.
The brand new 7-track EP “When Everything Goes Wrong” is available in JB HiFi stores around Australia and iTunes Worldwide, it features guest vocals from Mest’s front man Tony Lovato. The much-anticipated release debuted at #28 on iTunes and #17 on the national AIR Album Charts. “Having it chart at #17 on the AIR Album Charts is another big ego boost for us,” says guitarist Dion Cerreto. “We are so thankful to everyone who is supporting us and our music!"
