Born Dameon Beckett, Baby Cham took Jamaica by storm as one its biggest dancehall stars by the age of 20. Beckett got his name from his baby-faced appearance, which stands in stark contrast to his booming baritone voice.
Growing up in the musically rich district Waterhouse in Kingston, Jamaica, Baby Cham became immersed in dancehall at an early age. At the age of seven, he began watching established DJs of the day hone their skills on the mic while he polished his own DJing abilities at school. He spent his spare time after school hanging out at recording studios and rubbing shoulders with reggae greats such as Shabba Ranks. Cham eventually got a gig as an opening act for Spragga Benz and then hooked up with producer Dave Kelly. Kelly and Cham collaborated for a series of hit singles, all of which have been compiled in Wow...the Story, a two-disc album designed to introduce Baby Cham to a wider audience.
