If you don’t already know of Kahwe, get ready, because he is on course to be one of the breakthrough stars of 2013. Born in Bolton but based in the electronic hotbed that is Leeds, this eager 21 year old has achieved plenty in the early days of his career. Drawing influences from the more soulful and forgotten sides of house, disco and garage, his lush productions have popped up on taste making labels Anjunadeep (with the shimmering and tastefully euphoric delights that were the Driving Me Wild EP) and Transmission Audio Recordings and has picked up props from peers and more established names alike.
So too is he part of a five man crew, the Transmission Collective, which showcases a wide range of music, events, art and other creative stuff on their own blog. As a result of his wide opening listening habits, a Kahwe DJ set is an eclectic and democratic affair that is not constrained to one style or sound. Drawing on records from across the ages, be they house, techno, disco, funk or anything else, he threads them into one cohesive whole that has impresses as much as his solo production work.
