Rupert Blackman is a singer songwriter, currently living in Utrecht, The Netherlands. Originally from London, Rupert moved to the lowlands in early 2008. Upon arrival Rupert formed a band around his music and soon after independently released a self made record (If You Only Knew EP) which lead to widespread interest in what he was doing, resulting in national radio performances, a growing fan-base and plenty of live shows.
However, it was as Rupert was carrying out his day job when his musical career took a larger step forward. At that time Rupert's day job was performing live music on the streets of Amsterdam. As luck would have it one day he was spotted by Holland's favorite female singer Anouk. After buying a few of his CDs, Anouk invited Rupert to be her support act for her entire winter theatre tour of The Netherlands. Although the tour itself was postponed in the end, this gesture was already enough to get other industry folk interested in Rupert and his music. Several meetings later Rupert decided to begin working alongside Bladehammer Music (an artist development company). This lead to Rupert signing a deal with the record label PIAS for Benelux territories, recording his debut album 'The Lights of Home' (out January 2013) with Martijn Groeneveld (Blaudzun, Case Mayfield, Lucky Fonz III), supporting a handful of international acts (Beth Hart, Sabrina Starke, Valerius, Rachél Louise) in some of Holland's most prestigious venues, giving live performances on national radio stations (Radio 1, Radio 2, 3fm) and performing live on national television (De Wereld Draait Door).
