The school musical at Southport State High School on the Gold Coast in 2009 was the scene where Double Lined Minority began their career in the Australian music industry – after a jam session backstage between founding band members Eddie Salazar (vocals/guitar) and Cameron Griffiths (vocals/guitar). Fast forward to 2010 where Jack Merriman (drums) came on board, then finally with Blair Klein (bass) who joined the band in 2012.
The band was young in age and industry experience, but that didn't stop them from achieving their dreams. When the band members were only 16-17 years old, they recorded and independently released their debut album "With Fingers Crossed". This saw the band book studio time for 10 days to do absolutely everything – record, edit and mix. Despite the non-stop nature of the recording process, the final product not only satisfied the band, but also received a positive response. Overall it was a learning experience in terms of both song writing/production and themselves.
In many ways 2012 was the breakout year for Double Lined Minority. It began with a set on the Big Day Out line up, which led to spots on other smaller festivals including Gold Coast Show, Warwick Winterfest and many more. The band also experienced radio airplay both in Australia and overseas.
Listening to "With Fingers Crossed" the influences of this Gold Coast band are immediately obvious, with the echoes of Blink 182, All Time Low and Fall Out Boy coursing their way through their music. However this band isn’t strictly a punk band and considers themselves to be quite diverse. Their next EP release will see the band growing in maturity and becoming more dynamic, assuring it will be more than just a typical 'pop punk' release.
According to lead singer Eddie Salazar, the material on the new Double Lined Minority EP will be “...more dynamic, creative and raw compared to our debut but still have our vibe”. This time around, the band had more of an idea about the whole recording process and approached it with a better perspective. The recording process was partly a DIY job, which saw the band members doing the engineering as well as the performing. The band has truly given it their all and is continually learning and improving. Double Lined Minority hope to release their new EP with the help of a label in 2013.
